Covid-19 claims 22 more lives, infects 1,041 others in Sindh

Twenty-two more patients of the coronavirus died in Sindh in the last 24 hours, increasing the death toll to 5,073 at a fatality rate of 1.6 per cent. This was stated by Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah in a statement issued here on Wednesday.

He added that 15,008 samples were tested, and 1,041 cases were detected, which constituted a seven per cent detection rate. So far 4,135,849 tests have been conducted, against which 320,471 people have tested positive. Of them 90.7 per cent or 290,640 patients have recovered, including 1,237 overnight.

Currently, said the CM, 24,758 patients were under treatment. Of them 23,781 were in home isolation, 25 at isolation centres and 952 at hospitals. He added that the condition of 897 patients was stated to be critical, including 77 shifted to ventilators.

According to the statement, of the 1,041 new cases, 642 have been detected in Karachi -- 212 in District East, 164 in District Central, 105 in District South, 75 in District Korangi, 67 in District Malir and 19 in District West.

Hyderabad reported 53 cases, Ghotki 29, Sukkur 25, Khairpur 22, Kashmore 21, Badin 20, Shaheed Benazirabad 19, Matiari 17, Shikarpur 15, Kamber and Sanghar 13 each, Jaccobabad, Sujawal and Nausheroferoze 11 each, Tando Allahyar 10, Dadu nine, Jamshoro five, Mirpurkhas four, Tharparkar two, Larkana and Thatta one each. Shah urged the people to abide by the standard operating procedures issued by the government to control the spread of the deadly virus.
