TV channel’s office attacked in Sargodha, guard injured

SARGODHA: Unidentified attackers hurled a grenade at the Sargodha Bureau of Express News TV channel Monday evening, the channel’s website reported.
No loss of life was reported, however, the channel claimed that a security guard was injured and the building’s exterior was damaged in the cracker attack. Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif took notice of the incident and ordered IGP Mushtaq Sukhera to submit an inquiry report in this connection.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) condemned the attack and announced to hold a protest outside the Punjab Assembly today (Tuesday).
APP adds: According to a handout Monday, the chief minister condemned the incident and vowed that attacks on media houses would not be tolerated. He directed that the culprits involved in the incident should immediately be arrested.
Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid also condemned the attack on the TV channel in Sargodha. In his statement, he said the government believed in freedom of expression and was taking all possible steps regarding the provision of security to journalists, media workers and media houses.
