This refers to the news report, ‘England beat Pakistan in thriller to take Twenty20 series’ (November 28). It seems history is repeating itself. Back in 2011, we won the Test series against England but lost the ODI and T20 series.
There is something wrong with the composition of the two teams for ODI and T20 formats because our Test squad’s performance is satisfactory. Is the PCB’s decision to have three different captains for three different formats of cricket producing different results? The answer is ‘no’ because Misbahul Haq had captained the team in all three formats of the game in 2011, and the results were the same. The reason is that our players are good at playing Test matches while the limited overs game is their weakness. The PCB should try to improve on this aspect of the team.

This refers to the news report, ‘England beat Pakistan in thriller to take Twenty20 series’ (November 28). It is time heads were rolled after the humiliating defeat at the hands of the English T20 team. And it should start with Waqar Younis. He has done more harm to Pakistan’s cricket than any previous coach. Next the selectors, who chose a player pushing past his 40 as captain of the team over younger and more talented batsmen, should be shown the door. These so-called selectors have no inkling of the requirements of the modern-day cricket and are still living in the mid-20th century. Then the batsmen who gifted their wickets to the opposition side – Ahmed Shehzad, Rafatullah Mohmand and Sohaib Maqsood.
We should also review the policy of having different captains for different formats of the game. We should not blindly follow other international teams. In our circumstances, one captain – with a steady head – should lead the national team. The idea of having different captains in three formats has not proved successful in our case. Had Misbahul Haq been leading the ODI and T20 sides the results would have been different.
