CM’s special assistant accuses Durrani of point-scoring

BANNU: Denying the allegation of his involvement in the bomb attack on Federal Minister for Housing and Works Akram Khan Durrani, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister’s Special Assistant Malik Shah Muhammad Khan Sunday asked the government to probe the incident through reputable national and international investigation agencies.
Speaking at a press conference here on Sunday, lawmaker Shah Muhammad Khan said that Akram Durrani wanted to get sympathies of the voters to weaken the position of Malik Gul Baz Khan who is contesting the election for the position of Bannu district nazim.
Shah Muhammad said that Pakistan Tehreek-i- Insaf (PTI) had condemned the attack on Akram Durrani’s convoy in the assembly and the government had announced a compensation package for the victims of the blast.
“Akram Durrani has resorted to cheap politics after the PTI became popular in his stronghold in Bannu,” he said. “Bakkakhel and Janikhel are my areas but I cannot attend events there without the permission from the police and security forces,” he argued.
He said that Akram Durrani should not have visited the area where he was attacked without clearance from the law-enforcement agencies. “Important government functionaries and tribal elders were targetted in the area in the past but Akram Durrani started blaming his political opponents after the attack which showed his frustration,” he maintained.
Malik Shah Muhammad said his family wanted a free and fair investigation into the incident. At least two people were killed and three others injured in the attack on the convoy of Akram Durrani, who is a leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and Member National Assembly (MNA) from Bannu on Thursday. He was returning to his house in Bannu after attending a meeting in Bakkakhel.
