ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan Monday complained that his party had been restrained while another political party was given undue liberty to carry out its poll campaign.
Briefly talking to a group of journalists here on the outskirts of the Islamabad Capital Territory after casting his vote in Mohra Noor, he said that one party’s hands had been tied up while the other had been given undue liberty to ‘make electoral gains’.
The PTI chief, who was to proceed to Sialkot for electioneering, questioned did the Election Commission, which resorted to rigging the 2013 elections, has any right to organise elections again?
Imran, clad in brown Qurta Shalwar, claimed that masses were yearning for free, fair and transparent elections in Pakistan. He was flanked by Naeemul Haq, local PTI leader Chaudhry Meharban and scores of slogan-chanting party activists.
Imran maintained that it was the ECP duty to conduct free and transparent elections. “We want neutral umpires. We don’t need umpires, who join hands with the government to ensure its victory,” he contended.
He regretted that despite having no post or ministry, he was barred from carrying out electioneering. He added that being a political party head, FIRs were registered against him for leading PTI campaign.
Imran asked was there any FIR registered for missing of ballot papers during 2013 general election. “Whereas three cases were registered against me for delivering speeches at public meetings,” he complained.
