The environment has often remained the unpublicised victim of war and conflict. Increases in temperatures around the world have been felt all the way in Karachi, where citizens faced severe water shortages and lives were lost. The United Nations Environment Programme has found that over the last 60 years, at least 40 percent of all internal conflicts have been linked to the exploitation of natural resources.
Furthermore, scientists have predicted that future wars may be fought for water. While we may justify such conflicts, the Earth may not be able to handle so much destruction. We need to change our behaviour towards the environment before it is too late.
