Another cop committed suicide under mysterious circumstances during duty at Liberty Facilitation Center on Thursday.
The victim identified as Zubair Khalid was a resident of Faisalabad and survived by a widow and two children.
Police said the victim was on duty. Suddenly, he whipped out his weapon and shot in his temple. He was shifted to a nearby hospital where the doctors pronounced him as brought dead.
Police officers and a heavy contingent of police reached the incident place on information. They removed the body to morgue for autopsy.
They collected forensic evidences from crime scene. SP Mustansir Feroz said according to initial investigation the victim was depressed psychology.
He said they found documents of a psychiatrist from his clothes. He said the victim was appointed at second shift at Police Facilitation Center and his track record was good. He said police were investigating the matter.
It is the third incident in as many days in Lahore. On October 17, ASI Azeem Ashraf appointed at Investigation Wing of Defence-A Police Station had also committed suicide by shooting himself in head. The family of the deceased person had alleged that he committed suicide because he was depressed due to ill-treatment by his officers.
On May 11, constable Imran had committed suicide in the Mughalpura police limits. The commanders of Lahore Police have yet to take measures for the psychological treatment of cops who work extensively and can not spare time for their families.
DACOITS ARRESTED: Factory Area police claimed to have arrested four members of Khuram alias Khurmi Dacoit Gang and recovered cash, gold, motorcycles and illegal weapons from their custody. The accused were identified as Khuram alias Khurmi, Shaukat, Ghulam Abbass and Ibrahim. The accused were arrested by a special police team. The team raided at a hideout on a tip off and arrested the accused.
They recovered Rs 400,000, 20 tolas of gold, two motorcycles, four pistols and 40 bullets from their custody. Nineteen cases have been traced to them during initial investigation.
The accused have been handed over to investigation wing for further interrogation. SP Cantt, Imtiaz Sarwar, announced commendatory certificates and cash prize for the special police team.
