The Lahore High Court on Monday issued notice to King Edward Medical University on a petition challenging appointment of Prof Dr Saeed Qazi as Pro-vice-chancellor.
A lawyer-petitioner filed the petition and pointed out that vice-chancellor had appointed his blue-eyed professor Dr Saeed Qazi as Pro-vice-chancellor. He said according to the merit list, Dr Qazi falls at the 13th position to hold the said office.
However, the VC violated the rules and merit while appointing Dr Qazi as Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the university, he submitted. The petitioner said that Dr Qazi did not have the required experience to hold the office and despite that he had been appointed which definitely would affect the standard of the medical university.
After hearing initial arguments, Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah issued notice to the Punjab government and King Edward Medical University to submit reply and put off further hearing until November 17.
election: The Lahore High Court on Monday directed Lahore Development Authority and Lahore Waste Management Company to explain whether Khwaja Ahmad Hassaan who got elected unopposed on the seat of chairman of Union Council 107, is holding any public office.
Justice Shahid Karim issued this order on a petition challenging the election of Khwaja Ahmad Hassaan for the office of chairman.
The judge wondered that how Khwaja Hassaan despite being a public functionary, got elected unopposed on a union council seat when the law barred public office holder from contesting elections.
Aziz Masood, a voter of the UC, filed the petition against the acceptance of Hassaan’s nomination papers by returning officer. The petitioner stated that the respondent had already held a public office as LDA vice-chairman and also got involved with Local Government administration by being a director of Lahore Waste Management Company.
He pleaded that Section 27 of the Local Government Act 2013 states that a person who was in the service of a statutory body controlled by a provincial government was not eligible to contest the Local Government election. He prayed the court to set aside his appointment.
