Spokesman of the Quaid-i-Azam International Hospital (QIH) has issued a statement on Wednesday and stated that in an article published in some news papers recently, Dr. Shaukat Bangash, founder and CEO of the QIH, a project of Global Health Services, took strong exception to the false and baseless allegation of defrauding US doctors to the tune of Rs4.5 billion. No offer is made to the NAB for returning the so-called investors money. He urged NAB chairman to take strong notice of such people who are damaging a state-of-the-art institution built mostly with foreign exchange.
QIH is a state-of-the-art hospital built in Islamabad and it has changed the healthcare system of the country. It was constructed without a penny as loan from any bank. Who will invest in Pakistan if you treat your investors like this? NAB is making inquiry into an allegation made by a few doctors living in US who refused to abide by their contract of providing their professional services to QIH. The main leader of the group wanted help in some illegal activity and upon refusal started a character assassination campaign against Dr. Bangash by writing letters to SECP, media, Transparency International, and NAB and all these agencies started their own inquiries. So far nothing is proved but it has caused lot of damage to the hospital and its reputation.
In a letter written recently to chairman NAB, Dr. Bangash has asked the list of doctors who paid 4.5 billion. No one paid that amount of money. He wants the names of 207 investors who paid 30 million each. He also wants these paid people or the accusers tell him names of 100 complainants who have allegedly been deprived of their hard earned money. All the land is in the name of Global Health Services registered with SECP and QIH is its project name. I am tired of same allegations by three different agencies, NAB, SECP and TI. The accusers after losing case in a US court before has now resorted to cheap tactics along with media trial with the help of some black sheep. No one contacted me before publishing false news or verified the same. In any case this created lot of confusion in public and damaged the image of those who have done a good job for the country. No one will come forward and do anything for the country if this practice continues. I left America which is paradise for doctors to build a state-of-the-art hospital for my country. I brought foreign investors and investment, all through proper banking channel. I have invested my own money more than any one else and have given 12 years of my life to this great project. Due to heavy depreciation in the initial yearsI could not pay dividends and investors must understand that I cannot go against the law. Dr. Bangash has invited journalists, NAB and SECP to come and see the project themselves before arriving at a conclusion.
"I should be left alone to concentrate on patients' care and contribute to the poor health care system of this country. Do not get me entangled in all these false allegations and replying to those one after the other new allegation and investigation," said Dr Bangash.
The management of QIH has decided to serve legal notice to all those who are defaming it. The QIH took eight years to complete, mostly with foreign exchange, all funds were transferred through proper banking channels. The project of this magnitude has been completed without any loan from banks. The hospital is in operation for the last three and half years. The hospital has 400 beds and is providing quality health service under one roof. The total cost of the project is Rs3 billion.
