The KP Oil and Gas Company (KPOGCL) can become an excellent job-creating industry for Pakistan if it is properly utilized. The company should have two goals, to promote the O&G sector in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and to provide training to local youth in O&G sector. For promotion of O&G the company should focus on three areas" survey, drilling and testing. O&G survey and drilling equipment are expensive but they are available on long-term lease nowadays. KPOGCL can lease equipment, train teams and private firms will then hire them for work in Pakistan, as there is shortage of drilling rigs and survey equipment in Pakistan. KPOGCL should also establish a testing laboratory for conducting relevant tests within KP as other laboratories are already overworked. These facilities will also provide revenue for the company while facilitating O&G sector.
For the second part of the goal, KPOGCL should partner with a local engineering training institute to provide accredited training to locals on drilling, survey and other areas of the O&G sector to help create labour for the O&G sector in Pakistan and the Middle East. Additional internships can be provided through the KPOGCL survey or drilling teams. To achieve this, KPOGCL would require a large area for office, equipment storage and laboratory that is close to an engineering training institute.
