ISLAMABAD: The government on Wednesday has extended the suspension of domestic flight operation till April 11, 2020.

The government has taken this decision due to rising number of coronavirus cases in the country. On the other hand, government has also announced to restart international flight operation from Thursday (today).

The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) official spokesperson said that government has decided to extend suspension of all types of domestic scheduled, non-scheduled, chartered, private air craft and general aviation operations till April 11.

However, the domestic flight operations to/from Islamabad International Airport for Gilgit and Skardu airports would continue as normal operations, he added. The cargo and special flights will be exempted from the restriction, he said.

According to Federal Minister for Aviation Ghulam Sarwar Khan, international flight operation will restart from Thursday (today). We will carry out corona test of all passengers coming from other countries, he said.

He also said that all international flights would be landed here at Islamabad International Airport (IIA). According to Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) official spokesman, flight operation for Toronto would start from April 3 while flight operation for England starts from April 4. In first phase, we will bring limited passengers in Pakistan, he said.

Earlier on March 24, the government of Pakistan had decided to suspend all types of domestic flight operations at all airports across the country with effect from 6 pm on March 26 in an effort to curb the spread of coronavirus.

The decision to halt domestic flight operations had come three days after suspension of international flights to the country.
