KARACHI: Price of onion has dropped Rs200/40kg on Monday in the wholesale market, while potato and tomato rates remained unchanged.
Haji Shahjehan, president of Falahi Anjuman Wholesale Vegetable Market, said that the market remained active after its timing was reduced to 12 hours from 24 hours. Sabzi Mandi timings have been shortened from midnight to midday. It remained closed for 12 hours.
“Price of potato and tomatoes remained unchanged. Other vegetable rates do fluctuate,” he said, adding that potatoes were being sold at Rs1,200/maund, onion dropped to Rs1,600/maund and tomatoes at Rs200/12kg crate.
Shahjehan said that prices of onion will further go down in the coming days, as more supply will start from Sindh, Balochistan and Punjab. However, prices of sugar, flour and pulses remained unchanged.
