The Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB) is carrying out the cleaning work in the metropolis as per the routine, said a press statement issued by the board’s managing director.
The lifting of garbage from homes and its transfer to the landfill sites from the garbage transport stations was also being done, said MD SSWMB Asif Ikram.
“The staff of SSWMB is onboard to provide relief to the public,” said Ikram in the press statement.
He said the solid waste board had constituted committees in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic which would continue the garbage lifting and disposal operation despite any challenging situation.
He assured that vehicles were being sent to all areas of the city which were under their administrative control, and that the garbage was being lifted timely.
Despite the lockdown in the city, he said, their trucks and lifters were moving in the city and the garbage was being transferred to the landfill sites without any delay.
Ikram said he had directed the Chinese and the local contractors that no leniency would be shown to those who failed to perform their task effectively.
“It is necessary that all officers and even citizens understand their responsibilities during this time,” he said, and directed all the officials to develop a strong coordination with all governmental departments, especially until the pandemic was over.
