KARACHI: The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) president Brig (retd) Khalid Sajjad Khokhar on Saturday said that trials for the selection of national junior hockey team are likely to be held on September 19-20 in Islamabad.
While talking to ‘The News’ on Saturday, Khokhar said that 35 players will be shortlisted from the camp in a couple of days.
The PHF boss also visited the Greenshirts’ training camp and assured them of providing every necessary facility. He told them that their performance in the Asian Games 2015 and qualification for next year’s Junior World Cup would play a key role in the revival of national hockey.
He said that after players are shortlisted from the juniors’ camp, there will be some matches organised between the junior hockey team and seniors of the national team who would be available at that time.
Meanwhile, Khokhar said that during his visit to Karachi, he would like to meet the management of some schools to know about their interest in promoting hockey among their students as the PHF wants to organise Inter-school tournaments at grass-root level.
The PHF president and secretary Shahbaz Ahmed will reach Karachi on Monday (tomorrow). They will also address a press conference on Tuesday.
