The wife of a man who had poisoned himself and their minor children a day earlier told the police on Thursday that his inability to repay the money he had borrowed was to blame for his drastic action.
Rehan, 41, Muniza, 11, and Ibrahim, 8, were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre from their Delhi Colony home on Wednesday. The father died during treatment, while the children were admitted to the National Institute of Child Health. The daughter’s condition is said to be critical. Police said on Thursday that they had recorded the statement of the widow, who said her husband had ended his life because he was unable to pay the money he had borrowed from some people.
The woman told the police that her husband had been involved in the gold business and had borrowed some money for it, but since he was unable to repay the loan, he decided to kill himself and their children following the lenders frequently demanding him to pay back their money. The initial probe had suggested that Rehan and the children had taken poisonous substance.
