Residents, shopkeepers protest against rising crimes in Shah Latif
Residents and shopkeepers of Shah Latif Town staged a protest against the rising incidents of muggings and other robberies on Tuesday.
The protesters came onto the roads and blocked it for vehicular traffic after a group of unidentified robbers looted around Rs500,000 from a superstore in the area on Tuesday. The protesters claimed that the incidents of robberies were on the rise in their locality and this was the second major incident of robbery in the current month. The robbers had also looted cash, cell phones and other valuables from customers at the superstore at gunpoint.
The protesters claimed that the police had failed to trace and arrest the suspects behind the incident despite obtaining CCTV footage.
Following the incident, a score of residents and shopkeepers gathered on the National Highway, blocked the flow of traffic and demanded the immediate arrest of the suspects. The protesters continued to stage a protest for two hours, which caused of a massive traffic jam; however, senior police officials reached the scene and ended the protest.
