Rawalpindi:The residents of various localities are still facing multiple problems due to low gas pressure ranging from cooking to warming small kids and elderly family members who are quite vulnerable to cold weather conditions.
They are facing difficulties in performing their daily chores especially cooking due to low gas pressure. Many of them have to buy food from hotels and restaurants that often costs them dearly. Those who use coal or kerosene oil are also finding it hard to meet their monthly expenditures.
The residents of these localities including Dhoke Ratta Amral, Dhoke Hassu, Pirwadhai, Khayaban-e-Sir Syed, Dhoke Najju, New Katarian, Tench Bhatta, Banni and Raja Bazaar are catching cold in high numbers especially kids and elderly people because wearing warm clothes are not enough to brave ongoing harsh winter season.
Esha Nawab, a resident of Dhoke Ratta Amral, said “There is low gas pressure mostly in peak hours in the morning, afternoon and evening at the time of cooking, which has disrupted our lives as children are often forced to go to school without breakfast.”
Fayyaz Hussain, a local teacher in Dhoke Hassu, said “Low gas pressure has been a routine in the winter season for last many years and the government always increases tariffs but despite tall claims it fails to remove the demand-supply gap.”
Rashid Mehmood, a resident of Dhoke Najju, said he bought coal from the market to light the stove in the evening because there was very low supply of gas after 5pm every day. He said the residents have started buying liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) gas cylinders, which are not easily affordable due to financial constraints, adding, “The people are also buying firewood and kerosene oil to meet their requirements.”
