Muzammil stuns Aqeel to win tennis tourney title
KARACHI: Second seed Muzammil Murtaza shocked Pakistan’s top-ranked player Aqeel Khan to win the 5th Begum Kulsum Saifullah Khan National Ranking Tennis Tournament in Islamabad on Sunday.
Muzammil hammered top seed Aqeel 6-4, 7-5 in one hour and 30 minutes to clinch the title. Meanwhile, in the final of men’s doubles, the pair of Aqeel and Muzammil overpowered M Abid and Waqas Malik 4-6, 6-4 (10-8).
In the under-18 singles final, M Shoaib won against Subhan bin Salik 5-7, 6-3, 6-1. In the final of under-14 singles, Bilal Asim beat Haider Ali Rizwan 6-2, 6-3, while the pair of Huzaifa Khan and Hamid Israr thrashed Ahmed Nael and Bilal Asim 4-1, 4-0 to win under-14 doubles title. In the final of under-12 singles, Hamza Roman defeated Husnain Ali Rizwan 4-2, 3-5, 4-2.
