The District Municipal Corporation (DMC) Central has decided to stop collecting parking fees in its jurisdiction in the larger public interest.
DMC Central Chairman Rehan Hashmi, during a session of the council, said the corporation would not be collecting parking fees from as many as 20 charged parking sites in its jurisdiction to provide relief to the public and ensure smooth flow of traffic.
However, those who were collecting parking fees illegally would be dealt with in accordance with the law. According to a statement issued by the DMC on Friday, Hashmi said the collection of parking fees from any of the 20 sites would be completely illegal. “Whosoever will be seen collecting parking fees will be taken to task.”
The council members of the DMC Central took the decision after they received complaints about illegally parking fees and massive traffic jams in the district.
The parking sites included Bi Amma Park in North Karachi’s Sector 11-C, Kababji at 2K Chowrangi, the Glory Super Mart in North Nazimabad, Noorani Ground in FB Area’s Block N, Bachat Bazar at 4K Chowrangi, Taleemi Bagh in FB Area, Hyderi Sweets, Dehlo Muslim Hotel, Hardware Market in North Nazimabad, Shahrae Chishti, Diamond Super Market in FB Area, Sir Syed Park in FB Area, Arshi Shopping Center in FB Area, I Own Karachi Park in North Nazimabad, Imtiaz Supermarket in Nazimabad No 4, Paposh Nagar, Chawla Market in Nazimabad, Paposh Nagar’s mobile market, Bara Mobile Market in sector 5C 4, Singam Ground ‘s bachat bazar in FB Area, Talib Chaman Park in North Nazimabad.
