Seminar speakers seek implementation of UN resolution on Kashmir
ABBOTTABAD: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Speaker Mushtaq Ahmed Ghani said on Sunday that the international community should help resolve the Kashmir dispute as it was the need of the hour that Kashmiri people were given the right to self-determination in the light of UN resolutions.
He was addressing a seminar organised by the district administration on non-implementation of UN resolutions on Kashmir at the auditorium of the Ayub Medical College here to express solidarity with Kashmiris on January 5, the day of the passing of the resolution by the UN for the self-determination of the Kashmiris.
Mushtaq Ahmed Ghani demanded the United Nations cancel the membership of India for not holding a plebiscite in Kashmir.
He added that the Indian government’s unilateral move to end the special status of India-held Kashmir was a despicable conspiracy and blatant violation of the United Nations resolutions and the Simla Agreement.
“We will not leave Kashmiris alone at any stage,” the speaker said, adding that the world should come forward and play its role to force India to stop their brutality in the held Kashmir and to raise voice against the new legislation by the Modi government.
The speaker said the international community should know the sensitivity of the matter and it was the need of the hour that Kashmiri people were given their rights in the light of UN resolutions.
He said that the UN should cancel the membership of India for not holding a plebiscite on Kashmir. “We stand by the people of Kashmir and will continue to do so,” he concluded.
Hundreds of participants including members of Trade Union, Civil Society, religio-political parties members and students of the Ayub Medical College and other educational institutions attended the seminar. Others who spoke at the occasion included Deputy Commissioner Abbottabad Amir Afaq.
The District Police Officer Javed Iqbal and Assistant Commissioner Abbottabad Mujtaba Bharwana were also present. Commissioner Hazara Syed Zaheer-ur-Islam while addressing the gathering reiterated the unwavering political, moral and diplomatic support of the people and Government of Pakistan to the just struggle of Kashmiri people to safeguard their fundamental rights including their right to self-determination.
He said the Indian government should realise that with the use of state oppression and absurd measures, the movement for freedom in held Kashmir could not be suppressed. The commissioner further said that the world was witnessing Pakistani nation’s support for the Kashmiri people and Pakistan would continue extending political, diplomatic and moral support to them till they achieved their right to self-determination.
Later, a walk was held in Ayub Medical College that demanded implementation of UN resolution on Kashmir. The participants were carrying placards and banners.
