Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) will meet the target of producing eight high-quality research journals by the end of this year, as part of its efforts of bringing about qualitative improvement in its overall academic pursuits, says a press release.
Four have already been published while the rest brand new journals are in process, said AIOU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Shahid Siddiqui while addressing a prize-distribution ceremony held at Gordon college. Prizes were given to the winners of speech and ‘naat’ competitions held among the university’s students in connection with Independence Day.
The function was arranged by the AIOU’s Rawalpindi Region. A science exhibition was also arranged on the occasion, in which science projects, developed by the University’s students were displayed.
Dr. Shahid Siddiqui said that the AIOU will be developed as Research-based University to create knowledge and bring innovations in the educational work to serve the society and help the government to meet its socio-economic targets.
In order to promote research culture in the country, a special fund has been created to award those who come up with creative work in the research field. In this connection, there is also a special incentive package for the University’s faulty members, he added.
Universities, he emphasized should be known for their research work and must play a proactive role in constructing and creating knowledge through applied research.
Dr. Siddiqui said they are working on other priority areas, like strengthening of students’ support system, professional development, revisions of its text books and consolidating delivery system, as well as ensuring timely distribution of books and announcing results.
In future, the university staff will strictly follow a timeline for sending books to students and announcing results, he added.
