‘NAB taking measures to bring back looted money from UK’

MULTAN: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is taking stringent measures to bring back looted money from the United Kingdom and other countries.

Talking to journalists here on Monday, NAB Deputy Chairman Hussain Asghar hoped that the NAB would gain multiple successes against corruption in the next six to eight months. He claimed that the NAB had recovered billions of rupees from corrupt and powerful people. He said the government wanted to eliminate corruption from the country.

The country had improved its anti-corruption ranking in the global index, Asghar disclosed. He said that the NAB had put numbers of corrupt persons behind the bars. Earlier, addressing the students at a ceremony held in connection with the World Corruption Day, the NAB officer lauded the efforts of the students for participating in a drive against corruption.

The students and young generation had been aware about corruption due to the NAB efforts, he told. The NAB had showed outclass performance this year, which reduced international corruption index from 175 to 116 as a result of the NAB efforts, he continued.

The NAB was working round the clock to fulfill the hopes of the nation, he added. NAB Multan region Director General Atiqur Rehman said that the region had received 15,335 complaints since the establishment of Multan regional office while action had been taken on 15,192 complaints.

The NAB regional office had conducted 291 inquiries and 131 investigations and arrested 242 accused persons, he informed. The region had filed 138 references in the NAB courts, he said. Atiqur Rehman said that the NAB regional directorate had recovered Rs 4,410 million from the accused persons, besides spreading awareness among the students and observing walks against corruption by adopting most modern techniques and strategy.

Later, the participants, led by NAB Deputy Chairman Hussain Asghar, took out a walk, which started from Multan Tea House and culminated at Multan Arts Council. A number of students and others participated in the walk.
