JI's Sirajul Haq urges govt to check inflation

LAHORE:Jamaat-e-Islami ameer Senator Sirajul Haq demanded the PTI government reduce inflation.

This was not the first time that Moody’s Investors Service upgraded country’s debt outlook from negative to stable, but it never showed the country’s internal economic situation and the masses never saw any real stability while their own economy also never improved, he said while addressing a meeting of central leadership at Mansoora here on Wednesday.

He said the up-gradation in the credit rating of any country by the American institution soon after the accession to the IMF programme was a routine practice. He said the government should provide relief to the poor and middle class instead of claiming victory on Moody’s report. He said inflation was record high and a common man completely lost buying capacity. Thousands of youth, he said, became jobs in past 15 months and they saw no employment opportunities in government and private sectors in near future. He said the educated young generation was depressed and worried about their future. He said improvement in stock exchange had nothing to do with the common man’s daily routine life. Instead, he added, the people wanted relief on the prices of food items and utility bills. People needed jobs, health and education facilities for themselves and their children, he said.

Siraj said the bad governance was the biggest problem of the present regime. He said the government created a drama on the issue of extension of tenure of army chief due to its inability, fearing the same episode on the same matter was going to be repeated in the national assembly.

He said the restoration of student unions was need of the hour and it would strengthen the democratic values in the country. Siraj said the enforcement of interest-free financial system was the key to bring real improvement in the country’s economy.
