KARACHI: Muttahida Qaumi Movement MNA Abdul Rashid Godil regained consciousness on Thursday morning after a panel of doctors at the Liaquat National Hospital (LNH) removed his life support on trial basis and till the filing of this report, Godil was breathing normally and all his vital signs were okay, LNH spokesman Anjum Rizvi told The News.
MNA Abdul Rashid Godil was seriously injured on Tuesday noon when armed men on motorcycle shot him five times near Bahadurabad while he was returning home. The driver of his car, Abdul Mateen, was killed in the armed attack.
The LNH spokesman said a panel of doctors at around 9:45am on Thursday decided to remove the ventilator, providing artificial breathing to Godil, after which he regained consciousness and responded to various questions by blinking his eyes and movement of his hands and feet. “Today the family members of the Rashid Godil also visited him in the Surgical ICU and Mr Godil recognized them and responded to their queries by movements of his hands, feet and blinking of eyes,” he added.
The condition of injured MNA, however, was still not out of danger until he is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Anjum Rizvi said adding that doctors had decided not to put him on ventilator anymore unless his condition deteriorates. “If the same progress in the health continues for the next two to three days, he would be shifted to the ward from the ICU, indicating that his life is no more in danger,” the LNH spokesman added.
A panel of doctors, comprising pulmonologists, surgeons, ENT specialists and other health consultants were monitoring Godil’s condition round the clock and were available in case of any emergency, he added.
