PESHAWAR: Four hundred and fifty graduates of BS, Master’s, MPhil and PhD programmes were awarded degrees and gold medals at the 5th convocation of the Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University (SBBWU) here on Thursday. The graduates from different affiliated colleges also received degrees at the convocation where Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Razia Sultana was the chief guest. A total of 30 graduates were awarded gold medals on the occasion.
Dr Razia Sultana greeted the students and said it was encouraging to see the increased number of graduates every year. The vice-chancellor stated that the increase in graduating students was proof of the fact that the university had the ability and capacity to educate more women in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
She added the university intended to increase opportunities for students and for the purpose the university had given over 300 need and merit-based scholarships to the students of the university. Dr Razia Sultana urged the students and faculty of the university to contribute to the economic wellbeing of the country. She said that the university intended to produce the best graduates who are aware of the job market and the economic situation of the country.
The vice-chancellor said the varsity focused attention on skill development of the women of the province for which Women Development Centre and Women Business Development Centre have been launched to facilitate the less educated women and promote entrepreneurial skills of the students.
