District West police claim seizing smuggled items in 10-hour action

The District West police have claimed that they led a grand operation in the adjoining areas of the Saeedabad Bus Terminal where they seized a large quantity of smuggled items.

The police said they had received the information that a bulk of items was dumped near the bus terminal which had been smuggled into the city from different parts of the country and abroad.

A grand operation was planned by the police to seize the smuggled items, under which 600 personnel from District West and other units of the Sindh police carried the raid in Yousuf Goth.

The police claimed that the operation lasted for more than 10 hours during which they faced resistance from smugglers but managed to seize the smuggled goods and arrested 32 suspects.

They also claimed that during the operation near Naval Colony Gate, some 100 to 150 miscreants attacked the police battalions due to which a police mobile vehicle was damaged. The miscreants also allegedly torched a dumper truck.

The police claimed to have recovered 40 dumpers loaded with betel nuts, 545 tyres, large quantity of Indian gutka, 75 smuggled air conditioners which were handed over to Customs authorities, 56 rolls of Iranian fabric and cash amounting to Rs800,000. Of the 32 suspects, 12 were arrested for allegedly being involved in arson and 20 for their alleged involvement in gutka business.

IED seized

The Sindh Rangers during a raid on Sunday evening in the Malir City area seized explosive materials including an improvised explosive device (IED).

A spokesperson for the Rangers said their soldiers conducted an intelligence-based raid at a house in Malir City where they found explosive devices and arms that were to be used to disrupt law and order of the city and cause terror.

The items seized by the paramilitary force included a prepared IED, two kilogrammes of explosive substance, six detonators, six metres of safety switch, a 9mm pistol and its four magazines, two 30 bore pistols, a double flame revolver lighter and hundreds of bullets of a 12 bore pistol. Further investigations are under way.
