Leading amateurs to feature in CNS Golf
ISLAMABAD: Some leading amateurs will be seen in action in the DTA Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Amateur Golf Cup that springs into action at Margalla Greens from Thursday with three-day main trophy getting under way from November 22 to be contested on 54 holes.
Commander North, Commodore Hamid Hussain, briefed media on the salient features of the tournament Wednesday, saying that Navy would continue its endeavor to support games. “The never ending interest of Navy in different sports will continue unabated. Golf is one sport which gets regular support and backing from the Navy.”
Flanked by Umar Farooq, Usman Tariq and others, Commodore Hamid said that the best amateur golfers of the country would be in action. “Main trophy to be contested from Friday will see country’s best amateur golfers playing for honour. In this main category so far we have received around 150 entries and the numbers are growing with each passing hour.” It is an annual event where amateurs are given opportunity to flex their muscles. “We know well that professionals absence would be felt but I am sure golf quality will be at its best as leading amateurs have been lined up for the event.”
Besides the main category, senior amateurs are to play 36-hole competition on the first two days. Juniors and ladies will also be seen in action. “The best of seniors over 55 years with handicap of 14 and below are eligible to compete in the event. Juniors match will be played on 18 holes for the age group of 18 and below having 24 or less handicap.”
Ladies will be seen in action over 36 holes with 18 holes each day on November 23-24. Ladies golfers with handicap 13 and below are to be dawn for the event.In addition to these categories an invitation match for the invited guests and sponsors over nine holes will also be contested on November 24.Following recent rains Margalla Greens gives a fabulous look providing ample opportunity for the golfers to get noticed. There is a car offered by Toyota for the first Hole in One.
