JI's Sirajul Haq calls for strengthening democracy
LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) ameer Senator Sirajul Haq has held the ruling party responsible for political unrest, stressing the need for dialogue between the government and the opposition to strengthen democracy in the country.
Talking to a delegation of the JI Karachi chapter who called on him at Mansoora on Wednesday, he said the cabinet shuffle was not a solution to the problems as the tactics would not help to bring about any change which the PTI had claimed to introduce after coming to power. He said a government that could not perform and please people was unlikely to complete its five-year term.
He said the rulers disappointed the masses and became unpopular in a short timeframe, breaking records of all former governments. He said people had started praying to get rid of this government and if the situation remained the same they would be left with no option but to take to the street to overthrow this regime. Therefore, he added, the rulers must show seriousness and take urgent steps to provide relief to the masses badly hit by inflation and unemployment. The government and opposition, he suggested, should start dialogue to strengthen democracy and introduce reforms in the judiciary and election commission.
Siraj also expressed concern over the problems faced by the people of Karachi. He said the port city which once was called “the city of lights” now turned into a heap of garbage. Millions of Karachities were becoming patients and could not breathe due to pollution, he added.
