Recovery of dengue larvae from the Ferozepur Road workshop of a company responsible for cleaning the city, has exposed its working and standards of operations.
Environment Department of the City District Government Lahore (CDGL) has found dengue larvae from one of the workshops of a company which is also running anti-dengue campaigns and its management always claims to keep international standards. The company is engaged in Metro Bus Project, Clean Lahore Project and Clean Murree and Pindi projects in the country.
As per details, District Officer (Environment) Younis Zahid along with his team and local MPAs carried out a raid on Ferozepur Road workshop and found dengue larvae there.
The workshop is situated near Children Hospital and presence of dengue at this place is very dangerous, said a senior official of Environment Protection Department (EPD), who was also with the raiding team. He said the company should implement its own cleaning SOPs on its own premises.
Younis Zahid, DO (Environment), while talking to The News said that huge quantity of dengue larvae was found at the workshop after which an FIR was lodged with Naseerabad Police Station against the company’s deputy manager and other officials.
Interestingly, when the team went to Naseerabad police station, it also found dengue larvae in the under construction building of the police station and a case was also registered against the contractor and in charge of the police station.
Meanwhile, Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) marked Anti-dengue Day along with its contractor companies to highlight precautionary measures needed to combat dengue. A walk led by LWMC head of Communication Department Jameel Khawar was held at Liberty Roundabout and was attended by senior CDGL officials, Turkish representatives of companies, officials of LWMC and students from Punjab University, Lahore College Women University and other educational institutions.
Participants were holding placards carrying messages about anti-dengue measures. They also raised slogans like “Dengue Ko Maat. Safai Ky Sath”.
Lahore Waste Management Company set up camps for registration and resolution of waste related complaints and distribution of awareness pamphlets.
Senior Manager Operation Suhahil Anwar Malik deployed a team of workers along with machinery to maintain clean and neat environment.
According to a spokesperson, clearance of open plots identified across the city has already been started by the Turkish companies and MD LWMC Khalid Majeed is himself monitoring the operations activities.
Communication Manager of Albyrak Pakistan Naeema Saeed while talking to The News said that the company has introduced a daily spray system at all its offices and workshops.
She said all preventive measures had been taken at the said and strict action will be taken against the responsible officials. She said the company will increase its precautionary measures to combat dengue.
Lahore Waste Management Company Communication Head Jamil Khawar said that the company will not tolerate such an incident and notices will be issued to Albyrak Pakistan very soon.
