KARACHI: Pakistan Swimming Federation (PSF) will be sending its men, women and junior swimmers to compete in Senior and Junior FINA World Championships to be held in Russia and Singapore.
Two male and as many female swimmers, Lianna Swan, Anum Bandey, Mohammad Saad Amin and Haris Bandey, will compete in 16th FINA World Championship to be held in Kazan (Russia ) from August 1 to 9.
The championship is the qualifying round for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. The final selection and nomination will be made by FINA.
The four players have been selected on the basis of national ranking achieved in the last national championship, which was held at the WAPDA Sports Complex in April 2015.
Yasmin Ahmed, Secretary PWSA will accompany the swimmers as team official. The team will leave for Kazan on July 28. Veena Masud, Secretary General PSF will also attend FINA and AASF Annual Congress meetings in Kazan.
Pakistan’s young swimmers will also be competing in 5th FINA World Junior Championships, which will be held from August 25 to 30 in Singapore. This tournament is also listed as a 2016 Olympic qualifying round.
Based on their national ranking, Immal Ahmed, Anyushe Engineer, Areeba Sheikh, Muhammad Saad and Kawas Behram Aga will compete in the tournament.
Mahrukh Ijaz Malik, Secretary Sindh Women Swimming Association (SWSA) will accompany the team as its official. The team will leave for Singapore on August 23.
