Villages of Maira Kalan and Mohrian on the main road to Chakri has a population of more than 25,000. Most of them are displaced Kashmiris who have been living there for more than thirty years, that is more than a generation.
However they are leading a hard and miserable life, as there are no roads in the entire locality. There is absolutely no gas and very few have the blessings of electricity. Their living and movement and that of their school-going children is no less than an ordeal.
A delegation of residents of both the settlements contacted this correspondent and handed over an appeal signed by around 100 persons. They have made a fervent appeal to Minister for Interior Ch Nisar Ali Khan to provide basic amenities of life to the people of his area. They said that they have a right on the kindness of the minister.
“We wish to bring it to his kind notice that darkness reigns supreme under the lighthouse. His own people, on the main Rawalpindi-Chakri Road are languishing and living miserable life.
We make a fervent appeal to Ch Nisar Ali Khan to pay heed to plight of the poor people of his area and ask the relevant departments to construct roads, provide gas and electricity to the residents of both Maira Kalan and Mohrian,” they said.
