SHC notifies KMC chief over non-payment of salaries to employees

The Sindh High Court on Thursday issued notice to the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s administrator, its financial advisor and others over non-payment of salaries and pensions to the KMC and DMCs employees.
A division bench, headed by Justice Aqeel Ahmed Abbasi, was hearing an application filed by the KMC’s Sajjan Union and Nadeem Sheikh against the authorities for flouting the court’s order regarding payment of salaries and pensions to employees of KMC and DMCs.
They submitted that thousands of the employees of KMC and DMCs, including fire brigade department staff, were not paid salaries owing to delay in release of the OZT and special grant.
Despite repeated directives of the court, the provincial government had failed to release the funds timely, they added
The petitioners prayed the court to direct the authorities to make payment of salaries to the KMC and DMCs employees, including pensioners within the stipulated time.
Notices to NAB
The Sindh High Court issued notices to the National Accountability Bureau, the Anti Corruption Establishment and others for comments on a petition of former education officer against his possible arrest in teachers’ appointment case
Mumtaz Ali Shaikh had approached the court seeking bail before arrest in the teachers’ appointments case.
He said the Sindh chief minister had issued orders for his suspension on April 24 2013 over the allegations of illegal appointments of the teaching and non-teaching staff in the education department. But, he added, the inquiry was not completed till his retirement on December 31 2014.
Sheikh maintained that he had learnt through the papers about possible action against the government servants by the NAB.
He said the CM ordered his suspension and the matter was later referred to the anti-corruption establishment but the NAB failed to complete the inquiry.
The ex-education officer argued that inordinate and deliberately delay in inquiry showed malafide intentions of the authorities and was a violation of the law. — PPI

AG put on notice
The Sindh High Court issued notices to the advocate general, the prosecutor general and others on a petition of the livestock and fisheries secretary challenging the registration of a corruption case against him, adds our correspondent.
Zafar Iqbal, who was posted secretary of the livestock and fisheries department in 2013, submitted that he had been booked in a case pertaining to illegal payments to private contractors in the establishment of a Bhambore dairy village that caused a loss to the national exchequer.
He said he did not make any illegal payments to the contractors and all payments were made strictly as per the contractual agreement.
He asked the the court to quash the FIR and proceedings pending against him at the trial court.
