ISLAMABAD: In line with the Supreme Court’s June 19 decision, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) Thursday denotified Omar Ayub Khan as MNA from Haripur NA-19 and fixed August 16 for repolling.
Acting on a petition of Dr Raja Aamer, the apex court ordered the disqualification of Omar Ayub Khan of the ruling PML-N and holding of re-election. The electoral body issued a notification of re-polling in the constituency according to which nomination papers will be received on July 06-07 while scrutiny will be held on July 08-09. The final list of candidates will be displayed on July 15.
The commission has also appointed a regional election officer, district returning officer and two assistant returning officers.Meanwhile, the ECP has invited the attention of all elected independent candidates of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to the explanation given under Rule 74 (7) of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Government Act, 2013 which says:
(a) “the expression “total number of general seats secured by each political party” shall include independent returned candidates or candidates who may duly join such political party within three days of the publication in the official gazette of the names of returned candidates and deliver an acceptance letter from the party leader addressed to the respective District Returning Officer”.
Therefore, all the independent candidates, intending to join any political party must ensure that an acceptance letter from the political party leader addressed to the DRO concerned has been delivered to the latter within three days [i-e till 12:00 p.m. on June 25, 2015] of the publication of official gazette of returned candidates.
Furthermore, as notifications of returned candidates have been issued on June 23, 2015 and the election tribunals have been notified for resolution of disputes, all applicants/petitioners are requested to approach the election tribunals for redress of their grievances.
