As the body count continues to pile up in what has been one of the most testing times in the city's recent history, the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has been without an administrator for the past four days as Saqib Soomro has gone abroad.
He had left immediately after approving the corporation’s budget for next financial year.
The official guard sitting in front of administrator’s office at the Civic Center when asked about his presence only said, “Sahab Nahi Aya.”
Official sources talking to The News on Thursday said officially KMC has no administrator at the moment.
When asked about any leave application by Soomro, they said it must be in the knowledge of the chief secretary.
Elaborating about the procedure normally taken in this regard, the sources said the secretary local government has to issue a notification for nominating an acting administrator or giving an additional charge of administrator to someone.
When asked if any of the two steps were taken yet, they told the scribe to contact the chief secretary on that.
The fact of the matter is that no one at the KMC was prepared to talk about the issue.
Yet, some reliable sources told The News that after the Rangers officials visit to the Civic Centre, various KMC officers have applied for leave but their applications were pending at administrator office due to Soomro’s absence. The KMC administrator had left after approving the KMC budget.
