PAKISTAN VETERANS CRICKET: Askari Green beat Gujar Khan in final
RAWALPINDI: Askari Green Rawalpindi defeated Gujar Khan Veterans by four wickets in the final to win the 3rd Pakistan Veterans (40 plus) Cricket Tournament here at the KRL Stadium, says a press release.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Gujar Khan scored 187 for the loss of nine wickets in the allotted 30 overs.
Arsalan Azad was their top run-getter with a contribution of 49, which was studded with five fours. Rizwan Majeed (27) and Muhammad Tahir (24) were their other notable scorers.
Left-arm spinner Alamgir Khan was the pick of Askari Green bowlers, claiming two wickets for just 12 runs. Tariq Shahzad and Kashif Imran also bagged two each, for 27 and 42 runs, respectively.
Askari Green, in reply, overhauled Gujar Khan’s total in the 29th over with four wickets in hand.
Mansoob Elahi led the run chase with an innings of 46 while Muhammad Younas and Abdul Rahim batted equally well for their contributions of 43 runs each. Tariq Shahzad remained not out on 15.
For Gujar Khan, Arsalan Azad took three wickets for 23 runs and Rizwan Bhatti had figures of 2-30.
Lt General (r) Abdul Ahad Najmi was the chief guest. Lt General (r) Syed Absar Hussain, chairman of the Pakistan Veteran Cricket Trust and also of the Rawalpindi District Cricket Association’s Adhoc Committee, was also present on the occasion.
Addressing the senior cricketers, club officials of Rawalpindi district and other guests, General Absar ensured all the stake-holders that he would work for the betterment of Rawalpindi cricket.
He asked cricket club officials to “forget the past and let’s join hands and move forward to take Rawalpindi cricket to its zenith”.
He also thanked and praised the teams from Lahore, Gujar Khan, Jhelum, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Rawalpindi and Islamabad for participating in the tournament and making it a success.
