PESHAWAR: At least two persons, including a child, were killed and over 35 were wounded in different roof and wall collapse incidents as rain and windstorm hit the provincial capital and other parts of the province in the afternoon on Tuesday.
Officials of the Rescue 1122 said a child died when the wall of a house collapsed in Faqir Killay due to a heavy storm. Another person, Jehangir, died and his mother was injured in Regi in a similar incident. There were reports that a person died in Daudzai village but these could not be confirmed.
Rescue officials said around 35 people, including women and children, were brought to the Lady Reading Hospital, Khyber Teaching Hospital and Hayatabad Medical Complex after wall and roof collapse incidents due to the rain and storm in Jamil Chowk, Faqir Killay, Jhagra, Tehkal, Pajaggi, Nasir Bagh, Chamkani, Pir Bala and other villages. An official said the Rescue ambulances provided services to the wounded and took them to hospital.
Separately, four people sustained wounds in roof and wall collapse incidents in Gujar Garhi, Jalal and Jhanday in the Mardan districts. In one incident on Malakand Road, a driver was wounded when a tree fell on his car due to the storm.
There were reports of around 12 people sustaining injuries in Mohmand while some people were also reported injured in Nowshera and Dera Ismail Khan. Due to dust-storm complete dark gripped the city for some time; however, after rain the atmosphere got clear and weather also turned pleasant. Power supply to many parts of Peshawar was suspended after the storm.
Earlier in the day, maximum temperature remained 34-degree centigrade and the weather was hot. The shower brought the temperature down. There were also reports of rain from some other parts of the province.
The Meteorological Department forecast dust-thunderstorm/rain with gusty winds at isolated places in Peshawar, Malakand, Hazara, Kohat, Mardan, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Quetta, Zhob, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Faisalabad divisions, Islamabad and Kashmir.
