ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board’s (PCB) last-ditch effort to keep the departments’ role intact in domestic first-class cricket turned fruitless as the patron-in-chief, Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday rejected their domestic cricket model, asking them to shun expediencies.

The PCB’s officials headed by PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani called on prime minister to discuss the future of Pakistan cricket setup. According to media reports, the prime minister also expressed concerns over the preparations of the national team for the upcoming ICC World Cup in England.

He expressed reservations over the selection process of the national team. “The prime minister told the PCB officials that they should take all possible steps to make sure that Pakistan’s best players represent the country in the World Cup. He also expects that the national team, when it lands in England, for the World Cup is fully prepared for it,” a source said.

Haroon Rashid and one of the PCB’s task force officials briefed the prime minister on the work being done on the future format of domestic cricket with minimal changes. ‘The News’ has learnt that the prime minister after listening to points of briefing said that there was nothing new and as a cricketer he had privy to all these pros and cons.
