ISLAMABAD: Two girls of Hindu community, who recently embraced Islam, on Monday approached the Islamabad High Court (IHC) along with their husbands to seek protection.

The petitioners, Reena and Raveena, stated in their plea that they had embraced Islam with free will. They stated that there was propaganda on media against them which could risk their and their husbands’ lives.

The two sisters stated that they had announced to accept Islam in front of Khanpur Bar Association. They prayed the court to issue directives for providing them security as their lives were under threat.

The petitioners had nominated the Ministry of Interior, chief minister Sindh, IGPs, member National Assembly Ramesh Kumar and Harilal as respondents in their petition.

Earlier, the Hindu sisters did not appear before the LHC Bahawalpur bench. Reena and Rowena of Mohalla Hafiz Dharki Sindh, reportedly got married with Barkat and Safdar of the same area, respectively after their conversion to Islam.

The brother of the girls reached the LHC with a team of lawyers. Talking to reporters, he accused local MNA, MPA, feudal mafia and the police of Ghotki of backing abduction of his under-age sisters. Shaman and his lawyers said both the girls were forced to embrace Islam after the abduction.

He also showed documentary evidence about the age of the girls. He said why his sisters were not produced before the court for the recording their statements under Section 164.

To a question, about a statement of Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry, he said the government had not made efforts to recover the girls. He said they had filed writ petition in the LHC for the recovery of his sisters.

Earlier, the premises of LHC Bahawalpur bench were packed with reporters and police as there was a rumour the girls would appear before the LHC.
