National language

Ask anyone why the medium of instruction in schools should be English and he/she would say that English opens the door to success. People think that if the world values English, Pakistan must do the same. While every country teaches its own language and literature to students, when it comes to us we use a foreign language to teach compulsory subjects like Maths and Science.

Many private schools fine their students if they are seen speaking Urdu on the school’s premises. In reality, children will be able to understand new concepts faster if they are explained to them in their own language. While learning two languages is good and helpful, overlooking your own language is not good.
