Islamabad : Ending Violence Against Women and Girls (EVAWG), an alliance of NGOs and rights activists, in a statement has said that instead of celebrating International Women’s Day, the alliance dedicated IWD 2019 to the brave, courageous fellow activist Afzal Kohistani Shaheed who was killed on March 6 in Abbottabad.
According to the statement, his unforgiveable ‘crimes’ were defending women’s rights and seeking justice. In 2012, three girls and subsequently his brothers were targeted in Jirga-ordered “dishonour killings.”
The statement said that he consistently reported numerous threats and beseeched the State for protection. But the State failed in providing protection to him, in violation of its Constitutional obligation and duty to protect all its citizens.
