Call to create awareness of kidney diseases

LAHORE: A three-day Uro Summit 2019 ended here with several recommendations, including creating more awareness among the public about kidney diseases.

The participants in the Uro Summit held under aegis of Pakistan Society of Urological Surgeons also appealed to the government to look into the matter of shortage of professors of urology all over the country and provide more specialists in this field.

Addressing the concluding session of the summit, the president of the society and professor of urology of Lahore General Hospital, Prof Dr Muhammad Nazeer, pointed out that the urology field was most important for health of general public. He said that use of unregistered medicines recommended by untrained doctors and quacks were resulting in the severe damage to the kidneys of youngsters while substandard food and urine infection were also the main causes of the urology-related complications.

Prof Dr Mohammad Nazeer recommended that every citizen should go for medical checkup especially for urine test and take subsequent action. He said that treatment facilities of international standard were available in Lahore General Hospital.

Prof Dr Muhammad Nazeer said diabetes, blood pressure and increase of uric acid were the main causes of kidney failure and the message of the Uro Summit was to keep a close eye on the functioning of body parts so that complications of urology could be avoided.

Prof Dr Sajjad Husain, Prof Mumtaz Ahmed, Dr Shahjahan, Dr Saleem Malik, Prof Riaz A. Tasneem, Dr Saleem Shahzad and Dr Ammar Razzar also addressed the conference. Prof Dr Faisal Masood delivered a lecture on kidney transplant. APP Adds: Punjab Food Authority (PFA) destroyed 33,000 litre adulterated milk in the City in the last week.

On the instructions of PFA Director General Capt (r) Muhammad Usman, the PFA teams checked over 100,000 litre milk in 34 tankers which were entering the City from Okara and Kasur districts.

After the tests conducted on the spot proved that the milk was adulterated, PFA vigilance teams destroyed 18,000 litre adulterated milk in six trucks coming from Okara while the PFA teams destroyed 15,000 litre adulterated milk coming from Kasure areas. Total 33,000 litre adulterated milk was destroyed during the last one week.
