PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority recovered 50 bags of Chinese salt from a van on the Grand Trunk Road here on Wednesday.
Director Operations Khalid Khattak said his team had received a complaint that 50 bags of Chinese salt packed in flour and rice bags were being supplied from Peepal Mandi via the Grand Trunk Road.
He maintained that a team led by Assistant Director Asad Ali was deployed to take the action.
Assistant Director Asad Ali said that his team recovered the salt from a van.
The official maintained that during the investigation the driver and his helper divulged the address of the supplier, who was subsequently arrested.
“The supplier has been arrested and is under investigation. We are about to bust the network of the Chinese salt suppliers,” the official added.
Acting Director General KP Food Authority Riaz Khan Mahsud said supplying Chinese salt was a crime as it had been banned by the Supreme Court. He directed the relevant officials to investigate the matter and identify the culprits.
