Woman dies, 25 injured as two metro buses collide in Lahore
LAHORE: A woman died and 25 others were injured when two metro buses collided near Gujjumatta Nishtar Colony police limits here on Monday.
At least 12 victims were shifted to General Hospital while 13 others were given first aid. The body of the woman, identified as Ammara Mobeen, 25, of Kahna Nau, was handed over to the victim’s family. Most of the victims included women were identified as Razia, 55, Ayesha, 18, Rehana, 40, Maryam, 27, while men victims were identified as Ramzan, 30, Waheed, 40, Ghulam Fareed, 65, Manzoor, 35, Shahid, 30, and Musawir, 18. Rescue 1122 and police responded to the incident within minutes and started rescue operation.
The rescuers said the bus coming from Kalima Chowk lost control and collided with the other bus coming from the opposite side. As a result, a woman sitting in the ladies section on the front side of the bus died on the spot while others sustained injuries.
The incident created panic among the passengers. A large number of families of the victims reached hospital to inquire after the health of their loved ones. Later on, the metro bus service was suspended for hours which created problem for the passengers.
