NAB gets 10-day remand of KP director Archaeology, Museums
PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday got 10 days physical remand of Abdul Samad, provincial director Archaeology and Museums, from an accountability court for allegedly misusing his authority.
The NAB officials produced him in the accountability court headed by Naveed Ahmad Khan.
The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) prosecutor sought remand of the official for further probe in the case.
Shumail Ahmad Butt, counsel for the detained official, opposed the NAB’s request for remand. However, the judge accepted NAB’s plea and granted 10 days remand of the accused.
Abdul Samad informed the court that he was arrested in a false case. He argued that if the charges are not proved against him, then the NAB officials should be prosecuted in the case.
The NAB officials brought Abdul Samad to the court handcuffed.
His legal counsel expressed displeasure over the NAB’s attitude with someone who was a gold medallist and double PhD and had received the presidential award.
He lamented that Abdul Samad was brought to court handcuffed although the charges against him have not been proved yet.
He pointed out that the NAB could not prove the allegation despite the passage of one year against the director Archaeology and Museums for recruiting Class-IV employees. He said Abdul Samad was arrested even though there is no evidence against him.
As per the NAB communiqué, a complaint was received by it against the director Archaeology and Museums in which he was accused of corruption and corrupt practices. It said that an inquiry was initiated after taking cognizance of the complaint.
“The accused in connivance with others misused his authority and made numerous appointments at different archaeological sites in gross violation of the rules,” the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) KP claimed. It said the case is being vigorously pursued and more arrests are on the card.
