SCCI, trade bodies to protest on 27th against FBR proposal

SIALKOT: The Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) and trade bodies of the district Monday passed a joint resolution of protesting and observing black day on May 27th, 2015 against the proposal of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) to enhance ratio of Sales Tax from 2 per cent to 5 per cent on five export sectors in the upcoming annual budget.
Traders in a joint meeting of different trade bodies presided over by SCCI president Fazal Jilani expressed grave concern over sudden ban on temporary imports of raw material under SRO 492 and 15 per cent regulatory duty imposed on imports of stainless steel used in the manufacturing of surgical instruments under SRO 18 (I) /2015, SRO (I) 568 (I) /2014.
SCCI Fazal Jilani, Chairman Ready Made Garments Association Ejaz Khokhar, Vice Chairman Sports Goods Association Chaudhry Muhammad Arshad, Chairman Surgical Association Tahir Ishfaq, Chairman Gloves Association Muhammad Younas, Chairman Leather Garments Association Ehtsham Gilani, Chaudhry Ahmad Zulfiqar Hayat, Zahid Latif Malik and others unanimously announced staging a strong demonstration outside local offices of FBR in Sialkot and Customs at the Sialkot Dry Port in Sambrial and halt export of all kinds of shipments for a day.
They vowed extending protests to Islamabad if their demands were ignored. After the joint meeting a protest demonstration outside the SCCI building was staged.
