Afghan refugees agree to vacate Azakhel Camp

NOWSHERA: The Afghan refugees agreed to vacate their abodes at Azakhel Refugee Camp after successful talks between the district administration and a representative jirga on Thursday.
The district administration held successful talks with the 10-member jirga of the Afghan refugees who agreed to demolish their dwellings and shift to other areas. Around 200 Afghan families demolished their houses and handed over the land to the district administration.
“A total of 2,000 more houses would be demolished in three days,” official sources said, adding that around 80 families left for Afghanistan while most of the families shifted to rented homes in Nowshera. Official sources said that the operation would be completed within three days.
The district administration handed over the machinery to the jirga members of the refugees for demolishing the homes after shifting their belongings to other places. The government had asked them to shift to Shamshato, Khairabad or Akora Khattak camps. The elders of the refugees’ jirga had assured the administration that the camp would be vacated within three days and the land handed over to the administration after demolishing all the houses.
