KARACHI: Sindh Olympics Association (SOA) has reprimanded Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) for indulging in unnecessary conflicts by supporting Tahir Jamil Khanzada, ex-president Sindh Squash Association (SSA).
Secretary general SOA Ahmed Ali Rajput, while responding to the letter of Secretary PSF Amir Nawaz, a copy of which is available with ‘The News’, has written a letter that states the PSF should refrain from indulging in unnecessary conflicts and must help Amir Khan who is the legal honorary secretary of SSA for the promotion of Squash in Sindh.
“I have received the email dated May 8th and noted the contents thereof. The email itself reflects your partial attitude towards Tahir Jamil Khanzada,” stated Ahmed Ali in the letter to Amir Nawaz. “The honorary SSA, whose secretary is Muhammad Amir Khan, is the only genuine squash body of Sindh,” reiterated Ahmed.
He added that SOA has received many complaints against Tahir Jamil Khanzada from Muhammad Amir Khan and Treasurer SSA Abdul Samad Khan. Ahmed listed complaints SOA received against Tahir which include: misappropriation of funds worth Rs700,000 belonging to the body, which Tahir fraudulently transferred into his personal account without the approval of the general council of SSA – exposing the Tahir’s misuse of funds by awarding a wildcard to his favourites in an international squash event.
Moreover, instead of promoting the game of squash, he created conflicts with the legally elected honorary secretary SSA Muhammad Amir Khan, said Ahmed, adding that he being the Secretary of SOA stands by Amir to help him in solving his genuine problems since he was first approached by Amir.
Ahmed added that the accounts of SSA could not be audited from July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2014 because Tahir Jamil Khanzada did not submit the expense report of Rs700,000 to the treasurer Abdul Samad Khan, due to which the accounts could not be submitted to the auditors.
Ahmed Ali cited that PSF’s senior vice president (Razi Nawab) considering the SSA as legal convened a meeting sometime back and promised to resolve the issue. “Unfortunately, I am sorry to say he did not bother to bring a just solution of the issue,” stated Ahmed Ali Rajput.
Secretary SOA also said that Amir Khan has been deprived of his legal right to attend the Annual General Meeting of PSF held on April 30th in Islamabad. The Secretary SOA then advised Secretary PSF to refrain from supporting Tahir Jamil Khanzada, ex-president SSA.
Earlier, Secretary PSF Amir Nawaz had written a letter to Amir Khan and accused him of forming a ‘parallel’ squash body in Sindh. “You have formed a parallel body in the province and the PSF has never recognised this parallel association in Sindh,” said Secretary PSF.
“Therefore, required interaction is being done with the genuine body headed by Mr Khanzada and the invitation for ECM and AGM was only forwarded to them”.
Secretary PSF added that PSF being the sole governing body of Squash in Pakistan is affiliated with WSF, ASF and POA. “As per the existing rules, all national federations have to be recognised by the International bodies and all provincial associations must be endorsed by the national federations,” the PSF secretary concluded.
