Police fail to round up extortionist

LOHARI Gate investigation police failed to round up an extortionist who demanded Rs100,000 from a citizen and threatened him of dire consequences in case he failed to deliver cash to him.
Mohammad Waqas, son of Mohammad Shahzad of Chowk Bukhari D/125 Lohari Gate, filed an application to Lohari Gate police station on April 13, 2015, for case registration against an extortionist Khalid Babra, but the police did not entertain his complaint. However, the Lohari Gate police registered a case against the extortionist Khalid Babra on April 30, 2015, following the court order.
According to the complainant Waqas, he ran a small cell phone and cigarette shop situated at Chowk Bukhari. On April 13, 2015, he received a phone call and the caller, who introduced himself as Khalid Babra, son of Taj Din of Lohari Gate, asked him to pay Rs100,000 as extortion money besides giving him life threats if he failed to do so. ‘My life is in danger but the Lohari Gate investigation police are reluctant to arrest him,’ he added.
When contacted, Lohari Gate police said 35 criminal cases had already been registered against Khalid Babra in various police stations of the city. Waqas appealed to the CCPO Lahore and DIG Investigations to look into the matter and direct the police to arrest the extortionist immediately.
