ISLAMABAD: Though Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has not included the name of former Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in its latest witnesses list submitted to the Judicial Commission, the party says the name of former ex-CJ will be given at the later stage of proceedings.
“The non-inclusion of former CJ’s name in the witnesses list doesn’t mean that the PTI has completely ignored it. Due to some expediency the name of former chief justice has not been included in the witnesses list, however, his name would be submitted before the Commission at the later stages,” Ishaq Khakwani, the head of PTI task force on rigging, said.
The legal team of PTI headed by Abdul Hafeez Pirzada initially had submitted the preliminary list of 13 witnesses to the Judicial Commission. However the Judicial Commission during its hearing on April 29, 2015, directed for submitting the fresh list of witnesses.
The legal team of PTI once again has submitted a fresh list of witnesses and this time instead of 13 names it gave 14 names to be testified before the Commission. However, the party again chose not to include the names of former chief justice, a former senior judge of the Supreme Court and former chief election commissioner. It is pertinent to mention here that the PTI chief himself had alleged that Justice (R) Iftikhar Chaudhry and Justice (R) Ramday were the fully involved in rigging during 2013 elections.
