ISLAMABAD: An exchange of hot words between Pakistan Muslim League-N lawyer Shahid Hamid and Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaaf-PTI counsel Abdul Hafiz Pirzada on Monday made the otherwise serious proceedings of the Judicial Commission interesting as the two senior lawyers called each other heart patient and one even announced that the other is on the last leg of his life.
During his argument before the commission, probing irregularities in 2013 general elections, Abdul Hafiz Pirzada said the very fact that the ruling PML-N had agreed to form the judicial commission establishes that rigging indeed took place.
On this, the PML-N lawyer started smiling sarcastically which infuriated Pirzada who complained to the chief justice about the interruption. However, Shahid Hamid said he is showing restraint as the PTI lawyer is a heart patient.
“You are a heart patient and you are on your last leg of life,” Pirzada responded angrily. Subsequently, Chief Justice Nasirul Mulk, who is heading the judicial commission, intervened and asked Pirzada to continue his argument.
However, at the end of his arguments, the PTI lawyer expressed good wishes for Shahid Hamid on which the Chief Justice said, “All is well that ends well”.Several politicians including PTI Chief Imran Khan, Minister of State for Information Technology Anusha Rehman and former Sindh chief minister Liaqat Jatoi were also present to witness the proceedings of the commission.
It was not clear on whose behalf Liaqat Jatoi was attending the proceedings as he was applauding the arguments of PTI lawyer.Jatoi who contested the 2013 election on PML-N’s ticket, expressed loud appreciation when the Chief Justice refused to accept the argument of Shahid Hamid regarding the number of votes obtained by PML-N. Shahid Hamid was of the view that the difference between the votes obtained by PML-N and PTI is too big to be affected by the claims of rigging in some constituencies.Howeve,r the Chief Justice remarked that PTI does not accept the claims of PML-N regarding the number of votes it obtained in 2013 elections.
